BANKING & MONEY · RECOMMENDED

Open a Spanish bank account (can be done remotely as a non-resident before arrival)

Not legally required, but life without a Spanish IBAN is friction everywhere: utilities, rent, taxes and fees all prefer it, and some direct debits require it. The title's tip is the useful part — many banks open non-resident accounts remotely before you arrive, which you can upgrade to a resident account once your NIE and TIE exist.
WHEN IT'S DUE
As soon as it applies — this lands near the top of a roadmap, in the first weeks.
WHY IT MATTERS
Strongly advised, though not strictly mandatory. Get Camino’s practical recommendation — not a legal requirement. How strongly we suggest it is shown by its priority; confirm the specifics for your own case.
WHAT COMES FIRST
Obtain your NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero, form EX-15)
LOLA'S TIP
Bring every document on the list — incomplete applications get rejected on the spot.
Where does this fall in your move?
Whether this step even applies — and when it's due — depends on your passport, work, family and plans. Answer a few questions and Get Camino builds your full roadmap, every step in the right order with real deadlines.
