HEALTHCARE · REQUIRED

Apply for the public health card (tarjeta sanitaria) once you contribute to Social Security or qualify for public cover — NLV holders keep their private insurance instead

The tarjeta sanitaria is your public health system card, issued once you actually have access — through work contributions, or another qualifying route. It's applied for at your local health centre with your padrón certificate. Non-lucrative residents are the exception by design: the NLV runs on private insurance instead, which is why this step may not appear in an NLV roadmap at all.
WHEN IT'S DUE
Follows “Empadronamiento” — due within 14 days once that step is done.
WHY IT MATTERS
A legal requirement for your situation. Verified against an official government source (AEAT, extranjería, BOE).

LOLA'S TIP
Sort this before you need it — coverage gaps are the expensive kind of surprise.
Where does this fall in your move?
Whether this step even applies — and when it's due — depends on your passport, work, family and plans. Answer a few questions and Get Camino builds your full roadmap, every step in the right order with real deadlines.
